Great post. We always ask to speak to the PA's and try again. However we also deploy technology as well. If unsuccessful we will then use OneSource or LinkedIn to get the contact names that we need.

My advice is to keep trying and you will get the name eventually.

Good post. My experience is that traditionally sales reps are not best equipped to to the outbound calling and qualification but are more skilled at picking up and running with opportunities once they are qualfied. That's when b2b telemarketing adds real value. The key is in the skill and expertise of the callers and scripts should only be used as a guide for a call, where more reliance should be made on the quality of the conversations and the ability of the caller to open up a meaningful dialogue and the permission to engage further

Another great article for the industry. Left to their own devices the average salesman forced to do telemarketing will make 8 calls a day - they'll find any excuse not to do it. besides, their skills lie in closing deals not finding them

I do understand the principal of what you are saying and I am very interested in telemarketing and am thinking about getting involved in telemarketing and think that I could do a good job once I find something worthwhile to market.

Any tips?

Great post - cam I ask a question about introducing:

I was told (years ago) to treat a cold call like you are talking to a long lost friend.

Some telemarketing companies advise not to do this and use the 'Mr' or 'Mrs' approach.

Do you think a more 'friendly' or 'relaxed' approach is best on the initial introduction?

Good post - indeed telemarketing is really a test of persistence. Hard work, but as you say - the process works and will pay off.

Telemarketing is indeed a great marketing strategy. If you plan to hire a company to cold call on your behalf, make sure they can provide you with quality results and their price is flexible depending on your budget.

That is spot on, however one thing I don't understand is that managers still passionately believe in a scripted. Some may not be as rigid or linear as others, such as your friend's, but managers seem scared to let their employees have any real personality in the calls or teach them to be good sales people. It just frustrates me!
It is the reason that so many sales people have to deal with a lot of rejection. The approach they are made to use invites it!

Another timely article. We booked more successful appointments in the 2 weeks leading up to Xmas than any time of the year. The first week of January is also likely to prove fruitful.
